MIA Design Studio's Lotus Clubhouse Rises from a Vietnamese Lake
MIA Design Studio has completed the Lotus Clubhouse at Eco Retreat Long An in Vietnam, a 2,000-square-meter complex of circular pavilions set within a lake. The low, dispersed structure features landscaped green roofs planted with native species, integrated solar panels, and a network of footpaths and bridges that guide movement across the water. Each volume is positioned at varied heights and distances, with restaurant spaces opening toward the lake and quieter rooms near planted edges. Inside, tapered columns rise into broad, curved ceilings, while stone flooring and timber finishes maintain a restrained palette. Daylight filters through gaps between roof plates and full-height glazing, and at night, subtle lighting traces the circular geometry. The project was completed in 2025, with principal architect Nguyen Hoang Manh leading the team. Photography is by Hiroyuki Oki.
