Mexico City galleries postpone Gallery Weekend CDMX after earthquake

other · 2026-04-24

A 7.1 magnitude earthquake hit Mexico City on Tuesday at 1:15 PM, leading the organizers of Gallery Weekend CDMX to indefinitely postpone the event. In response, numerous galleries have canceled their exhibitions to focus on emergency and rescue operations. Collection centers for emergency supplies have been established by LABOR, Fundación Alumnos47, Galeria Alterna, Marso, and Páramo. Galeria OMR, situated in the heavily impacted Roma district, announced that all efforts are now concentrated on assisting those in need. The quake also affected Oaxaca, the Oaxaca Isthm, Puebla, and Morelos. In Oaxaca de Juarez, the Instituto de Artes Gráficas de Oaxaca is managing donations for the area. Contributions can be directed to Mexico's Red Cross and the Brigada de Rescate Topos de Tlatelolco, a search-and-rescue group formed after the 1985 earthquake.
