Mexican candy wrappers reimagined as luxury objects in photo series
Design duo Adriana Mora and Cèlia Pladevall have created 'Commercial Confectionery', a photographic series that elevates everyday Mexican sweets to the status of luxury items. The project features clinical, still-life-style compositions of brightly colored candies against sterile backgrounds, using precision instrument props like C-clamps to reframe the objects as precious artefacts. The series evolved into a physical publication with the help of Daniel Larsen: a custom envelope made from 'cartalina rosa' containing an 18-page zine, a double-sided poster, and holographic postcards. The design draws on the visual language of Mexican papelerías and dulcerías, incorporating decorative frames from 'planillas biográficas' and candy availability sheets. The publication will be available at selected independent bookshops in Mexico City soon.
