Metropolitan Workshop expands Maggie's Cheltenham with lozenge-shaped extension

Metropolitan Workshop, based in London, has finalized an 80-square-metre addition to the Maggie's Centre at Cheltenham General Hospital. This new space includes a lozenge-shaped communal kitchen and dining area, allowing for increased visitor capacity while preserving the serene ambiance of the original Grade II-listed Victorian lodge, which was designed by Richard MacCormac in 2010. The extension, situated to the southeast, is linked by a glazed corridor and boasts a façade of fluted concrete and Cotswolds stone. Interior elements feature exposed brick walls, wooden joinery, and terrazzo counters. The previous kitchen has been transformed into two snug consultation areas, and the library is now a small group activity room. Landscape designer Christine Facer contributed a wildflower meadow and a green roof. Established in 1995, Maggie's Centres provide support for individuals impacted by cancer.
