Metropolitan Museum of Art presents 'The New Woman Behind the Camera'
The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York has launched 'The New Woman Behind the Camera', an exhibition focusing on female photographers from the 20th century. This display includes 185 pieces from 120 artists across more than 20 nations, covering the years from the 1920s to the 1950s, marking the first international exploration of this theme. Featured works include self-portraits by Florence Henri, Annemarie Heinrich, and Alma Lavenson, alongside commercial studio and street photography by women such as Karimeh Abbud and Alice Brill. Wartime photojournalism by Margaret Bourke-White and fashion photography by Lillian Bassman are also highlighted. Museum director Max Hollein noted the exhibition's global relevance. It was organized in collaboration with the National Gallery of Art and supported by various foundations. Virtual tours are offered.
