Metropolitan Museum of Art Hosts First US Retrospective of Caspar David Friedrich
The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York will host "Caspar David Friedrich: The Soul of Nature" from February 8 to May 11, 2025. This exhibition marks the first comprehensive retrospective of the celebrated German Romantic painter in the United States. Visitors can expect to see over 75 artworks, comprising oil paintings, sketches, and drawings that trace Friedrich’s artistic development, alongside works from his peers. The exhibit will bring together all five Friedrich paintings held in U.S. collections from notable institutions. Museum director Max Hollein emphasized the collaboration with German organizations to delve into Friedrich's perspective on the interplay between nature and humanity.
