Metasemantica di Maraini e la poesia astratta oggi

publication · 2026-04-26

Fosco Maraini, born in Florence in 1912 and passing away in 2004, developed a unique form of abstract poetry known as Metasemantica during the 1960s. This style aims to free language from traditional meanings, evoking images and sounds akin to music. His piece, Lonfo, draws inspiration from the sculptures of Arp and the hybrids of Ernst, with influences from the surrealist Mamou, stemming from Breton's group's playful word shaping of reality. Having lived in Tibet during the late 1930s and 1940s, Maraini blended his penchant for wordplay with Eastern influences. Introterra, a publishing house from Campania, is set to release "La smania dell'Alicantro," featuring metasemantic verses by Athena Maryam and abstract works by Livia Messina, exploring the oral traditions of Campania.
