Metamorphosis at Castello di Rivoli Explores Human Adaptation

The Castello di Rivoli presents 'Metamorphosis', a group exhibition curated by Federico Godino that examines human change and adaptation through a heterogeneous collection of works by international artists. The show's rhizomatic structure connects diverse themes—from politics to sexuality—challenging static notions of form. The manifesto image is Ingela Ihrman's 'Passion Flower', evoking botanical vitality. The exhibition is framed by two anchor works: 'I Have left you the Mountain' (curated by Simon Battisti, Leah Whitman-Salkin, and Åbäke), an audio installation originally for the Albanian pavilion at the 15th Venice Architecture Biennale, and Alexa Karolinski and Ingo Niermann's 2016 video 'The Army of Love'. These pieces explore change and adaptability, which invited artists develop in varied ways. Works range from Mathilde Rosier's delicate drawings of human-plant-animal hybrids to Edouardo Navarro's 'Celestial Food', which updates Mario Merz's food concepts for contemporary ecological and economic contexts. Lyn May Saeed's naive plastic sculptures contrast with deeper works on resilience and migration. The exhibition also includes a testimony from economist and former Greek politician Yanis Varoufakis on the migrant crisis. The show opened in 2018.
