Meta Wrongfully Bans Sports Photographer's Instagram, Restores After Outcry

In July, Meta permanently disabled the Instagram account of 19-year-old sports photographer and videographer Jack Rastorfer, falsely claiming his content violated community standards on the sexualization of children. Rastorfer, based in Lenexa, had built a following of nearly 20,000 on his account @jackman_vids over five years, and the platform was crucial to his business, with many clients contacting him via Instagram DMs after one of his videos went viral, amassing 1.2 million likes and seven million views. Despite appealing the decision and explaining his account had no connection to children, Meta rejected the appeal and permanently disabled the account. Rastorfer was unable to reach a human representative, only encountering AI chatbots. After exhausting all avenues, he turned to FOX4 Problem Solvers, who successfully contacted a Meta human representative. Meta acknowledged the error and restored the account, but did not respond to follow-up questions about the cause. The incident highlights growing frustration among users who have resorted to small claims courts to recover accounts, with some legal actions helping users regain access. Rastorfer expressed shock, stating, "It's so scary that it can happen to anybody, any business."
