market-auction · 2026-04-27

The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York has received a $125 million donation from Oscar Tang and Agnes Hsu-Tang to renovate its modern art wing. The gift will fund nearly 7,500 square meters of new galleries and exhibition spaces for modern and contemporary art. Oscar Tang, a financier and Met board member, and Agnes Hsu-Tang, an archaeologist and art historian, have long supported the museum. The renovation is part of a decade-long renewal project led by director Max Hollein since 2018. The new wing will be named after the donors. An architecture firm will be selected by winter 2022. Tang, born in Shanghai and a refugee in the US, chairs the Asian Art Visiting Committee; Hsu-Tang serves on the Modern and Contemporary Visiting Committee. The couple emphasized the Met's role as a custodian of global artistic heritage.
