Met Museum Show Features Artist iPhone Photo Conversations

The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York presents 'Talking Pictures: Camera-Phone Conversations Between Artists,' coinciding with the tenth anniversary of the iPhone. Twelve pairs of artists communicated solely through iPhone photos and videos for five months, from November 2016 to April 2017, without text or social media sharing. The resulting works are displayed as prints, touch screens, and video projections. Participating pairs include William Wegman and Tony Oursler, Nicole Eisenman and A. L. Steiner, Cao Fei and Wu Zhang, and Teju Cole and Laura Poitras. The project revives the tradition of private correspondence through visual means. The Met may acquire some dialogues for its collection, reflecting growing institutional interest in technology-based art. Similar exhibitions include the Columbus Museum of Art's '#MobilePhotoNow' in 2015 and 'My Word Shared' at London's East Gallery in 2011.
