Met Museum Places Giacometti Sculptures Inside Ancient Egyptian Temple of Dendur
From June 12 to September 8, the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York will present "Giacometti in the Temple of Dendur," showcasing fourteen sculptures by Alberto Giacometti, sourced from the Fondation Giacometti in Paris, along with three pieces from the museum's own collection. These artworks will be arranged around the Temple of Dendur, a 1st-century B.C.E. structure dedicated to Isis and the siblings Pedesi and Pihor. A highlight of the exhibition is Giacometti's Walking Woman (I) (1932) located in the offering hall. This event represents a collaborative effort among various museum departments and ties into the forthcoming 2024 exhibition "Flight into Egypt: Black Artists and Ancient Egypt, 1876–Now." The Temple of Dendur was moved to the Met in 1967 and opened to the public in 1978.
