Mestre's Urban Regeneration Through Art Initiatives
Mestre is experiencing a slow cultural awakening driven by young entrepreneurs, new museums, and local associations. The collective Urban Rise uses street art as a tool against urban decay, organizing projects like the 220 sqm mural on the facade of Cinema Dante, a historic cinema facing crisis. The artist will be selected via an open call ending April 30, incorporating visitor suggestions. Future plans include a film festival on street art. Meanwhile, the association Didatticando, in collaboration with Marco Peri, engages over 200 children and families in participatory art actions on shop windows in degraded areas, funded by a Venice municipal regeneration grant. Near the station, the Riverberi project, initiated by ETICITY Venezia, opens vacant shops at low rents for creative activities, such as the Balaustio tailoring workshop and exhibitions by the Treviso-based Outsider Tapu group.
