Mestre Dicinho's Tropicalismo Exhibition at Sé Galeria Showcases Psychedelic Animal Sculptures
From August 26 to October 21, Sé Galeria in São Paulo features the animal sculptures and wall pieces of Mestre Dicinho, who is seventy-eight years old. Utilizing copageti—a blend of paper pulp, plaster, and glue—he crafts a vibrant bestiary filled with optical illusions. Notable works on display include Galo (2016), Arara (2015), and Cavalo (2017) in the first room, while upstairs, visitors can see Cachorro (2019) and O Corvo (1998). Dicinho’s art, rooted in Arte Popular, has distanced him from mainstream art markets. His contributions to Tropicalismo, a 1960s counterculture movement against Brazil's military regime, include designing Gal Costa's 1969 album cover and examining social dynamics through natural systems, merging Pop art with local traditions.
