Meryl Streep's 'Devil Wears Prada 2' Costumes Auction at Christie's
Meryl Streep is launching an online charity auction at Christie's featuring 20 iconic costumes from the sequel to 'The Devil Wears Prada'. The sale, running from September 1 to 15 during New York Fashion Week, will benefit the Committee to Protect Journalists and the Council of Fashion Designers of America. Highlights include the cerulean J. Crew sweater worn by Anne Hathaway as Andy Sachs, estimated at $100-200, and a Dries Van Noten fringed jacket worn by Miranda Priestly, valued at $4,000-6,000. Other notable lots include a Schiaparelli black-and-white jacket ($4,000-6,000), a Fendi tiger-striped bag ($3,000-4,000), and a Gabriela Hearst patchwork dress with a salad stain ($3,000-4,000). Top lots are Lady Gaga's feathered hooded black dress from the 'Runway' video ($15,000-20,000) and Lucy Liu's white Elie Saab gown with Maison Skorpios boots ($2,000-3,000). Producer Wendy Finerman noted that the sequel reminded a generation that journalism is a serious profession and fashion is true art. Streep previously held a charity auction for the first film's costumes in 2006, selling over 75 pieces from Prada, Hermès, and Valentino on eBay.
