Mert Ege Köse Unveils Mirrored Sculpture at Giza for Art D’Égypte's Forever Is Now
Turkish artist Mert Ege Köse has installed a large mirrored sculpture titled The Shen (2025) at the Giza Plateau in Egypt, part of the fifth edition of Forever Is Now organized by Art D’Égypte. The work, measuring six metres wide and five metres high, is crafted from aluminium and special alloys at ASAŞ Sanat, featuring reflective surfaces that mirror the pyramids and desert landscape. Curated by Ayça Okay and produced in collaboration with AWC Contemporary, the sculpture reinterprets the ancient Egyptian shen hieroglyph, symbolizing eternity and divine protection, into a contemporary form that invites viewer immersion. Köse, with a background in engineering and philosophy, explores harmony and balance through modular systems, merging material science with spiritual inquiry. The installation reflects Art D’Égypte's mission to connect heritage with the present, creating a dialogue between cultures and time periods. The sculpture's lattice pattern interacts with light and movement, blending the human presence with the monumental setting of Giza.
