Meris Angioletti and Ulla von Brandenburg Reinterpret Sonia Delaunay at XNL Piacenza

exhibition · 2026-04-27

At XNL Piacenza, the exhibition "Sul vestito lei ha un corpo" (On the Dress She Has a Body) brings together contemporary artists Meris Angioletti (born 1977 in Bergamo) and Ulla von Brandenburg (born 1974 in Karlsruhe) to engage with the legacy of Sonia Delaunay, the Russian-French artist active in 1930s Paris. Curated by Paola Nicolin, the show opens with a selection of twelve gouaches on paper by Delaunay from 1923–1932, the peak years of her Atelier Simultané—a live-in studio that became a hub for artists, poets, and musicians. Angioletti contributes sound compositions that weave voices and words with varying rhythms throughout the space, while von Brandenburg installs large painted fabrics that redefine the gallery layout, onto which three historical experimental films are projected. The exhibition emphasizes color, fabric, texture, and the fusion of sound, costume, theater, and art as tools for social and psychological investigation. Visitors are free to navigate the space without a fixed route, creating their own paths. Nicolin stated that the invitation to Angioletti and von Brandenburg stemmed from a desire to revisit a well-known art historical moment through a contemporary lens, highlighting the atelier as a site of knowledge transmission, simultaneity, and sharing. The show runs at XNL Piacenza's ground floor.
