Meriç Algün's 'A Glossary of Distance and Desire' at Magasin III
Meriç Algün's exhibition 'A Glossary of Distance and Desire' at Magasin III explores desire, separation, and identity through spatial installations and found objects. The title installation features about a hundred objects on seven colorful geometric podiums, referencing the world's continents and tangram puzzles. Works include 'Ö (The Common Letter)' (2011), a dictionary of 1,270 shared Turkish and Swedish words; 'The Concise Book of Visa Application Forms' (2009); and 'A Work of Fiction' (2013). The exhibition draws on Roland Barthes' 'A Lover's Discourse' (1977) and Anne Carson's 'Eros the Bittersweet' (1986). 'Eternity 1988–∞' (2019–ongoing) collects Calvin Klein perfume ads featuring Christy Turlington, critiquing capitalism's commodification of eternal love. A new sound piece 'Eternity (Forever)' (2023) plays in a restroom. The exhibition runs at Magasin III in Stockholm, curated by Sofia Ringstedt.
