Mercato Centrale Milano Opens with Alessio Bertallot's MI-SIDE Project
Mercato Centrale Milano, a food and culture market conceived by Umberto Montano and the Human Company group (Cardini-Vannucchi family), will open in April 2020 in the redeveloped area outside Milano Centrale station. The 4,500-square-meter, two-level structure will host over 25 artisan food shops and employ about 350 people, with an investment of over 7 million euros. The project is part of a broader urban regeneration led by the Municipality of Milan with Grandi Stazioni Retail and Ferrovie dello Stato. For the Milan opening, Alessio Bertallot—DJ, musician, radio host, and artistic director of Radio Mercato Centrale—has conceived MI-SIDE, a multimedia investigation exploring hidden sides of Milan. The project launches with six video portraits by underground artists including composer Cesare Picco, new media artist Marco Cadioli, writer Filippo Balestra, and electro-romantic musician Venerus. New videos will be released every ten days on mi-side.it and YouTube, with behind-the-scenes content on Instagram @mi_side. Previous Mercato Centrale locations in Florence, Rome, and Turin have hosted installations by Daniel Buren, Michelangelo Pistoletto, Juan E. Sandoval, Ai Weiwei, and performances by Maria Pecchioli.
