Mendrisio's Cultural Treasures: Museums, Archaeology, and Art in Ticino

The Swiss Ticino's Mendrisio area boasts a vibrant cultural scene. Volunteers from ARAM have created a 3D reconstruction of the Archaeological Park of Tremona-Castello, which has seen human habitation for over 6,000 years and was deserted in the 14th and 15th centuries. Celebrating its 300th anniversary, Johann Joachim Winckelmann is featured at the m.a.x. museum in Chiasso, alongside La Rinascente's graphics from May 20. The Museo d'Arte in Mendrisio, which opened in 1982, has launched 'Metamorfosi,' focusing on contemporary sculpture. Raffaella Columberg's retrospective is on display at the Pinacoteca cantonale Giovanni Züst in Rancate until August 20. Additionally, the Museo Vincenzo Vela in Ligornetto showcases works by the Vela brothers, while the Museo dei fossili del Monte San Giorgio in Meride presents fossils from a UNESCO site. The Galleria Fondazione Rolla in Bruzella features photography from the collection of Rosella and Philip Rolla. Cultural itineraries are curated through Val Mara, Basso Mendrisiotto, Monte San Giorgio, and Valle di Muggio.
