Meme Gallery in Milan Celebrates Food with 'A Slice of Happiness'

Meme Gallery, a design gallery founded by Maria Angela Di Pierro in Brera, Milan, one year ago, presents 'A Slice of Happiness', a new exhibition dedicated to food and its representation. Located in the former porter's lodge of an old convent, the gallery spans seven meters over three floors. The exhibition features works by Danish fashion graphic designer Maria Walter Nielsen, created during the first phase of the pandemic. Nielsen's series offers a pop reinterpretation of everyday food items, emphasizing levity and humor rather than hyperrealism. The project celebrates small daily joys and food as memory, pleasure, and sentiment. Due to the pandemic, the gallery organized an online vernissage on Instagram and plans to use its Etsy shop starting November 10 to display and sell works. Di Pierro, who also handles communication for her family's historic shop Frutteto Garibaldi, emphasizes a slow, private approach to commerce, focusing on selling beauty and happiness as status symbols. She quotes a poem by Rodari about selling hope. The gallery previously hosted exhibitions by Federico Pazienza and Gala Fernandez during Milan Design Days.
