Melanie Pocock Joins Ikon Gallery as Curator, Bringing International Experience
This month, Melanie Pocock has stepped into the curator position at the Ikon Gallery in Birmingham. Before this, she was teaching at LASALLE College of the Arts in Singapore, where she obtained her MA in Curating Contemporary Art from the Royal College of Art in London. Over her six years there, she served as assistant curator at the Institute of Contemporary Arts, putting together exhibitions like Countershadows (2014), Native Revisions (2017), and Dissolving Margins (2018–19). Pocock has also contributed to ArtAsiaPacific and edited a monograph on Malaysian artist Shooshie Sulaiman in 2014. She has experience at Modern Art Oxford and Art Scene China in Shanghai. Ikon director Jonathan Watkins praised her fit with their global projects, while Pocock expressed her respect for the gallery's commitment to artists and community.
