Meier Ramirez: Lima's Avant-Garde Publisher and Gallery
Meier Ramirez, a unique publishing house in Peru founded by Andrés Marroquín Winkelmann in 2014, produces art books, theoretical essays, artists' books, vinyl records, and fanzines—many as limited-edition art objects. The press aims to translate each project's ideas into a distinct editorial language, giving every work its own format and identity. Its publications are held in the archives of the Guggenheim Museum and MoMA in New York, the National Museum of Modern Art in Tokyo, and the Reina Sofía in Madrid. The latest release is a monograph on Chilean artist Andrés Durán's Monumento editado, accompanying a 2019 exhibition at the Fine Arts School of Santiago. Durán researched public space and official histories in Peru, Bolivia, Argentina, and Chile. Recently, Meier Ramirez opened Candela, an exhibition space in Lima's Barranco district, to further showcase collaborating artists. The space also hosts Pesapalabra, a poetry and criticism magazine directed by Luis Alberto Castillo and produced with the Ánima Lisa collective, which explores the material possibilities of writing in the digital age.
