Meg Onli Appointed Director of LA's Underground Museum; Sandra Mujinga Wins Preis der Nationalgalerie

Meg Onli, previously associate curator at the Institute of Contemporary Art Philadelphia, has been named curator and director of Los Angeles's Underground Museum. She will lead the institution with Cristina Pacheco, its current COO and interim director. Founded in 2012 by Noah and Karon Davis, the museum focuses on presenting exhibitions by Black artists to diverse and underrepresented communities. In Germany, sculptor Sandra Mujinga received the Preis der Nationalgalerie, Germany's top prize for emerging artists. Mujinga will mount a solo show at a Nationalgalerie venue next year, accompanied by a publication. The jury praised her work for balancing craft with contradictory experiences, creating spectral figures that appear both ominous and protective while inviting viewer imagination. Meanwhile in London, Ingrid Swenson is departing as director of PEER after 23 years. During her tenure, she collaborated with artists including Mike Nelson, Danh Vo, Emma Hart, Jadé Fadojutimi, Samson Kambalu, and Lubna Chowdhary. Swenson also established an internship program for individuals from underrepresented backgrounds. Nicholas Serota, chair of Arts Council England, noted that Swenson made PEER influential beyond its size by supporting artists at pivotal career stages.
