Medioevo a Pistoia: Crocevia di artisti tra Romanico e Gotico

A major exhibition titled 'Medioevo a Pistoia. Crocevia di artisti fra Romanico e Gotico' opened at the Antico Palazzo dei Vescovi and Museo Civico in Pistoia, Italy, in 2022. Curated by Angelo Tartuferi, Enrica Neri Lusanna, and Ada Labriola, the show presents 68 works of sculpture, painting, manuscript illumination, and goldsmithing from the 12th to early 15th centuries, many recently restored. The exhibition highlights Pistoia's role as a crossroads for artists such as Nicola Pisano, Giovanni Pisano, Pietro Lorenzetti, Taddeo Gaddi, and a young Filippo Brunelleschi, who contributed to the silver altar of Saint James in the adjacent Cathedral of San Zeno. Key pieces include a relief by Taglia di Guglielmo, a fresco by Manfredino di Alberto, and illuminated manuscripts from the Capitular Archive. The event marks the first comprehensive survey of medieval art in Pistoia since 1950 and coincides with the recent renovation of the Palazzo dei Vescovi, acquired by the local Cassa di Risparmio in 1973. Director Monica Preti aims to restore Pistoia's artistic legacy amid competition from Florence and Pisa.
