Medardo Rosso Retrospective at MSK Ghent
The Museum of Fine Arts of Ghent (MSK) is hosting a major retrospective of Medardo Rosso (Turin, 1858 – Milan, 1928), the first in Belgium in 110 years. The exhibition, running until June 24, 2018, highlights Rosso's pioneering role in modern sculpture, his use of soft materials like clay and wax, and his innovative approach to light and photography. Rosso is considered a precursor to modern and contemporary art, influencing artists such as Umberto Boccioni, Luciano Fabro, Giuseppe Penone, Marisa Merz, and Giovanni Anselmo. The show brings together an impressive number of works from public and private collections across Europe, a rare feat given the fragility of the sculptures. The MSK collaborated with the Museo Medardo Rosso in Barzio to organize the event.
