MEAM Hosts Guillermo Lorca's First Solo Exhibition 'La casa de arena'

exhibition · 2026-05-18

The MEAM (Museu Europeu d'Art Modern) in Barcelona presents 'La casa de arena', the most comprehensive exhibition dedicated to Chilean painter Guillermo Lorca. Running from May 28 to September 27, 2026, the show features 20 works across seven rooms on the museum's first floor, functioning as a retrospective of his last decade. Lorca, a rising figure in international figurative painting, creates large-scale oils populated by giant felines, angelic girls, and unknown creatures, blending magic and realism to explore tension between nature and humanity. His technical virtuosity and narrative intensity are on display. Lorca graduated from the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile and apprenticed with Norwegian artist Odd Nerdrum. His international career includes solo shows at Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes (Chile), Tang Contemporary Art (Seoul), Asprey (London), and MOCO Museum (Barcelona), the latter two curated by Simon de Pury. Group exhibitions include 'Ritual, trauma and allegory' (Tang Contemporary Art, Hong Kong), 'Realism Now' (MEAM), and 'Dog in poses' (Venaria Reale Museum, Turin).
