Meadows Museum and Arco Madrid Launch MAS Partnership for Spanish Art

institutional · 2026-05-04

The Meadows Museum in Dallas, home to the most significant collection of Spanish art outside Spain, has signed a multi-year agreement with the Arco Foundation of Madrid to launch MAS (Meadows/Arco Artists Spotlight). The initiative aims to increase visibility for Spanish artists in the North American market. Over six years, the institutions will jointly organize exhibitions in Dallas in 2021-2023 and 2025, featuring emerging or established Spanish artists selected by an advisory committee. Selected artists will travel to Texas for a four-month solo exhibition at the museum and participate in public events to engage local critics and collectors. The Arco Foundation, associated with the contemporary art fair ARCOmadrid, seeks to support Spanish art and promote collecting. To celebrate the agreement, the Meadows Museum will display Untitled (2019) by Secundino Hernández (Madrid, 1975) from November 19 to April 26. The Meadows Museum, opened in 1965, was founded by Texas magnate and philanthropist Alger H. Meadows, who visited Spain in the 1950s, spent time at the Prado, and acquired art from various periods. Its collection spans Spanish masterpieces from the Middle Ages to the 20th century, including works by El Greco, Velázquez, Murillo, Ribera, Goya, Mariano Fortuny, Raimundo De Madrazo, Sorolla, Zuloaga, Picasso, Dalí, Mirò, and Juan Gris.
