MCM's Disco on Mars Installation by Atelier Biagetti at Milan Design Week

exhibition · 2026-04-24

Atelier Biagetti, led by Alberto Biagetti and Laura Baldassari, created 'Disco on Mars' for MCM's 50th anniversary at Milan's historic Rotonda del Pellegrini during Milan Design Week (April 21–26, 2026). The installation transforms the venue into a multi-level interplanetary vessel, blending German heritage with futuristic surrealism. The ground-floor 'Lab' features upcycled MCM Visetos monogram pieces like the Orbit pouf and Mach-1 helmet, accompanied by a laboratory-like soundscape. The first level houses 'Disco Mars' with a roller-skating rink and a robot DJ powered by ABB technology, evoking 1970s disco. The second-level 'Diva Dome' presents a ritualistic space with the Avatar sculpture and Baldassari's operatic rendition of Bellini's Casta Diva, processed by Michele Tadini. Limited-edition items include the Ella Boston and Ottomar Weekender bags, Cosmic Star fragrance, and Mars Mask eyewear. The installation explores space travel as a metaphor for creative liberation, challenging linear time perception.
