McLaren Unveils McL 6GT Concept with Manual Gearbox, First Since F1

McLaren has unveiled the McL 6GT concept, its first vehicle with a manual transmission since the legendary F1. The prototype, which previews a production model expected in 2028, will be displayed during Monterey Car Week. The design is inspired by Bruce McLaren's first road car, the M6GT from 1969, featuring low-slung lines, large front lights, and a low-profile rear wing. The cabin integrates digital displays and Alcantara-covered surfaces, with a Papaya Orange clutch pedal and a six-speed gear shifter. The production version is expected to carry a $1.5 million price tag. Unlike the Ferrari 12Cilindri Manuale, the McL 6GT offers a true manual without computer assistance. Details on the powertrain remain vague, but the physical vehicle runs, according to Car and Driver. The concept also features the 'Speedy Kiwi' logo etched into the fuel cap.
