MCA Sydney Debuts First Nations Shipping Container Installation at Kamay Botany Bay

exhibition · 2026-05-20

The Museum of Contemporary Art Australia has unveiled Dennis Golding: On the Foreshore, a large-scale public art project created with Kamilaroi/Gamilaraay/Biripi artist Dennis Golding and local youth from the Bayside area. The installation wraps four stacked shipping containers in digitally printed designs co-created by Golding and the young participants, drawing on their experiences of Country and the area's significance. Located on the foreshores of Kamay Botany Bay—a site of first contact and ongoing cultural meeting ground—the work is the MCA's 25th C3West project and its first expansion into Greater Sydney. The project transforms industrial containers into a striking visual landmark against the bay's waters and headlands.
