Mayfair Art Weekend's Abstract to Pop Tour Guides Visitors Through Modern Art History

Mayfair Art Weekend launches on Friday 28 June with Gallery HOP!, featuring late viewings and events across over thirty galleries from 6-8pm. ArtReview publishes weekly themed guides to navigate the area, including the Abstract to Pop Tour, a thirteen-minute walk from Saville Row to Dover Street. This tour explores abstract art's global evolution from the 1920s to the 1960s, highlighting key exhibitions. At Hauser & Wirth, László Moholy-Nagy's works from 22 May to 7 September showcase his Bauhaus-era innovations, including Light Prop for an Electric Stage and photograms. Olivier Malingue presents Abstract or not from 26 April to 19 July, featuring artists like Nicolas De Staël and Jean Dubuffet who blurred abstraction and reality. Waddington Custot's Writings on the Wall, from 17 May to 30 June, examines graffiti's influence on artists such as Brassaï and Cy Twombly. The Mayor Gallery hosts Pécs Workshop from 5 June to 26 July, focusing on Hungarian artists' enamel works from 1969-1971. Lévy Gorvy's Un art autre, from 26 April to 5 July, highlights lyrical abstraction in 1950s Paris with Sam Francis and Zao Wou-Ki. Galerie Max Hetzler features Raymond Hains: Infinite Conversations from 5 June to 25 July, showcasing his décollage works from torn posters. The tour connects abstract art's origins to Pop art's emergence, emphasizing social and political contexts.
