May amnesia never kiss us on the mouth at MoMA and Dia Art Foundation
The project "May amnesia never kiss us on the mouth" (2020–ongoing) by Basel Abbas and Ruanne Abou-Rahme examines how communities react to violence and displacement. Since the early 2010s, they have gathered recordings of individuals singing and dancing across Iraq, Palestine, Syria, and Yemen. This initiative includes performances featuring dancer Rima Baransi and musicians Haykal, Julmud, and Makimakkuk in Ramallah. Co-commissioned by MoMA and Dia Art Foundation, it encompasses both an online platform and a physical exhibition. The first segment, titled "Postscript: after everything is extracted," debuted in December 2020, with an updated online platform launched in March 2022. The MoMA exhibition will showcase "Only sounds that tremble through us" along with ticketed performances. The Studio will have early closures on June 4, 5, 11, 12, 25, 26, and at 4:00 P.M. on June 23.
