May 2022 Arts and Culture Guide: From Feminine Power to Stranger Things
The British Museum is presenting 'Feminine Power: the Divine to the Demonic' from 19 May to 25 September, which delves into female spiritual entities and is expected to spark discussions in the ongoing gender debates. At Fotografiska New York, 'BLACK VENUS' runs from 13 May to 28 August, showcasing 17 artists, such as Tabita Rezaire and Kara Walker, who tackle the theme of Black women's objectification. Netflix's 'Stranger Things 4' (vol. 1) premieres on 27 May with a budget surpassing that of both Game of Thrones and The Mandalorian combined. Princeton University Press has released Wu Hung's 'Chinese Art and Dynastic Time' (2022). Additionally, Martine Syms' 'Neural Swamp' is on view at the Philadelphia Museum of Art from 14 May to 30 October, while 'Panamérica' by Cecilia Lisa Eliceche and Leandro Nerefuh is at Boavista Gallery, Lisbon, from 21 May to 19 September. The Institut Français London will host 'Beyond Words' from 16 to 22 May, and a documentary on Nick Cave and Warren Ellis is set to debut on 11 May. Abbas Akhavan's 'study for a garden' at Mount Stuart is available until 2 October, featuring audio and film elements. Lastly, Secret Snacks in Sydney will be mapping Asian snack spots from 9 May to 31 October.
