Maxxi Rome launches summer with three architecture exhibitions including Zaha Hadid tribute
The Maxxi museum in Rome has launched its summer season with a trio of architecture exhibitions aimed at reinforcing its role as a cultural hub in the capital. The program, introduced by President Giovanna Melandri as "a celebration of architecture that makes Maxxi a great laboratory for the future," includes two anthological shows—"L'Italia di Zaha Hadid" and "Yona Friedman. Mobile Architecture, People's Architecture"—and an external project, "L'effimero in scena. Omaggio al Teatrino Scientifico dell'Estate Romana." The latter, curated by Franco Purini, pays homage to Nicolini and Argan, who forty years ago recognized culture as a means to redefine social geography. Margherita Guccione and Woody Yao curated the Hadid exhibition, which focuses on the late architect's relationship with Italy, highlighting realized projects and collaborations with Italian design brands. The Friedman show, arriving from the Power Station of Shanghai, features the 94-year-old architect who emphasized that architecture is a matter for everyone, however utopian. Pippo Ciorra described the program as "a sort of triangulation" of site-specific works that challenge disciplinary boundaries. The summer format includes over 30 events.
