exhibition · 2026-04-27

The MAXXI Museo nazionale delle arti del XXI secolo in Rome has launched 'Le storie della performance', a series of five encounters exploring performance art from the 1960s to the present. Curated by different specialists, the program covers video art, dance, environmental art, and theater. Sessions include Alessandra Mammì on video art from Nam June Paik to Matthew Barney (February 29), Anna Lea Antolini on dance from Merce Cunningham to Lady Gaga and Francesco Vezzoli (March 14), Riccardo Venturi on natural elements from Robert Smithson to Olafur Eliasson (March 21), and Gianfranco Maraniello on 1970s theater from Living Theatre to Arte Povera (April 18). The series aims to trace the evolution of performance as a key artistic language of recent decades.
