MAXXI Roma Celebrates Ghella's 130 Years with Photography Exhibition
The MAXXI museum in Rome is hosting 'Nuove avventure sotterranee' (New Underground Adventures), a photography exhibition celebrating the 130th anniversary of Ghella, Italy's oldest large infrastructure company, founded in 1894. Curated by Alessandro Dandini de Sylva, the show runs from June 13 to September 25, 2024, at Spazio Extra. It features over one hundred photographs by Stefano Graziani, Rachele Maistrello, Domingo Milella, Luca Nostri, and Giulia Parlato, documenting Ghella's major public works in Italy, Canada, Argentina, Australia, and New Zealand, spanning from the late 1960s to the early 2000s. The exhibition also includes archival photos taken by engineers and technicians. Dandini de Sylva describes the project as a journey through landscape and history, combining documentation and experimentation to renew the imagery of large infrastructure projects. MAXXI president Alessandro Giuli noted that the show marks a further step in the long-standing relationship between MAXXI and Ghella, highlighted by the donation of 48 photographic works to the museum's collections.
