MAXXI opens search for new architecture director
The MAXXI museum in Rome has published a call for applications to find a new director for its Architecture Department, replacing Margherita Guccione. Guccione, born in Rome in 1953, originally led the department for ten years before a brief stint as Director General for Contemporary Creativity at the Ministry of Culture. She returned to MAXXI in January 2021 and oversaw the museum's architectural program since its inception, having worked on the Zaha Hadid-designed building from 2000 to its 2010 opening. The new director will manage both the Rome headquarters and the L'Aquila branch, overseeing exhibitions, research, the architecture archive, and the permanent collection. Requirements include a master's degree or equivalent, proven professional experience in museum or cultural institution leadership, and specialization in contemporary architecture. The contract is for 36 months, renewable, with salary based on the Confindustria-Federmanager collective agreement. Key challenges include the recent expansion of the L'Aquila venue at Palazzo Ardinghelli and the Grande MAXXI project, which involves redesigning the north front of the Rome site through an international ideas competition open until April 26, 2022.
