MAXXI L'Aquila Opens 'Terreno' Exhibition on Post-Earthquake Territory

exhibition · 2026-04-26

The MAXXI L'Aquila, housed in the restored Palazzo Ardinghelli, inaugurated 'Terreno — Tracce del disponibile quotidiano', an exhibition curated by Lisa Andreani that explores the concept of territory through multiple artistic voices. The show reflects on the invisible yet essential everyday, featuring works that engage with themes of place, land, and ground. A key installation is Ramona Ponzini's 'Down-hole', a sound piece whose scores follow the geological profile of the region, created in collaboration with students from the Conservatorio 'Alfredo Casella'. The inaugural performance culminated in a noise-improv crescendo mimicking nature's force. The exhibition references Gianni Celati's poetics of the ordinary, presenting territory as a living fabric of stories and collective memory. Works include Nico Vascellari's 'Fiorellini', 'Pratone' by Giorgio Ceretti, Pietro Derossi, and Riccardo Rossi, and Bruno Munari's 'Fossili dell'epoca elettronica'. The Sala Voliera, which hosted the sound performance, now serves as a social space. The exhibition runs at MAXXI L'Aquila, a satellite of MAXXI Roma, in a palace that was restored after the 2009 earthquake and reopened in 2020.
