MAXXI Bulgari Prize exhibition showcases international artists in Rome

exhibition · 2026-04-20

The MAXXI Bulgari Prize exhibition at Rome's MAXXI museum features three artists selected through a partnership with Bulgari that began in 2017. Diego Marcon, Invernomuto (Simone Bertuzzi and Simone Trabucchi), and Talia Chetrit present new and archival works exploring contemporary themes through photography, moving image, and sound. Marcon's CGI video Ludwig depicts a boy singing on a storm-tossed ship, while Invernomuto's film projection combines Roman Empire imagery with Italy's fascist past. Chetrit's Amateur series includes photographs and a video exploring intimacy and self-presentation. The exhibition runs through 28 October at MAXXI's Zaha Hadid-designed complex in Rome's Flaminio quarter. The prize, originally established 17 years ago, has previously recognized Italian artists like Vanessa Beecroft and Francesco Vezzoli before expanding internationally through the Bulgari partnership. MAXXI's contemporary art collection contains approximately 400 works assembled over two decades.
