MAXXI Bulgari Prize 2024 Finalists Exhibition Opens in Rome
The fourth edition of the MAXXI Bulgari Prize, curated by Giulia Ferracci, presents works by finalists Riccardo Benassi, Monia Ben Hamouda, and Binta Diaw at the MAXXI museum in Rome until March 2, 2025. The winner will be announced on January 17, 2025, alongside the presentation of Roberto Fassone's project "And we thought (2021–ongoing)", which won the new MAXXI Bulgari Prize for Digital Art. Established in 2018 by MAXXI and Bulgari, the prize supports young contemporary artists. Unlike previous editions, the exhibition is held in the Gian Ferrari room, featuring three site-specific installations. Benassi's "Assenzahah Essenzahah" involves two robotic dogs performing choreographies with music and laser text. Diaw's "Juroom ñaar" comprises seven charcoal columns honoring women from the Senegalese village of Nder who self-immolated to avoid slavery. Ben Hamouda's "Theology of Collapse (The Myth of Past) I-X" consists of ten laser-cut iron panels with Islamic calligraphy and spice pigments. The Digital Art special mention, awarded to Fassone, explores authorship and AI, produced by Sineglossa. Bulgari CEO Jean-Christophe Babin highlighted the diverse influences in the works and the new digital category.
