Maximilian Nisi Named Artistic Director of Borgio Verezzi Theatre Festival
Actor-director Maximilian Nisi (Faenza, 1970) has been appointed artistic director of the historic Borgio Verezzi Theatre Festival for its 2024 edition, running from July 5 to August 14. The festival's theme is 'Essere o apparire: il sottile filo dell’inganno' (To be or to seem: the thin thread of deception). Nisi, who was surprised by the offer, accepted out of love for theatre and a desire to give back to a festival that has given him much over 30 years. He aims to balance continuity with the work of founders Enrico Rembado and Stefano Delfino while introducing innovation based on his artistic background. Nisi plans to foster audience engagement through high-quality performances, collaborations with other festivals, and an 'Off Section' for contemporary and classic works requiring intimate spaces. He emphasizes the need for beautiful, necessary theatre that educates and uplifts audiences, and criticizes the current disconnect between theatre and television. Nisi also intends to create training opportunities and support young artists through socially impactful projects. The interview was conducted by Laura Bevione.
