Max Pechstein: Espressionismo dell'anima at Palazzo Zabarella, Padua

Palazzo Zabarella in Padua will host the exhibition 'Max Pechstein. Espressionismo dell'anima' from October 24, 2026 to March 14, 2027. The show presents 120 works tracing the creative journey of German Expressionist Max Pechstein, a key member of Die Brücke. It opens with a section on his early years, including his 1906 joining of the group, and features preparatory sketches, correspondence, and personal photographs. A notable highlight is a series of photographs Pechstein took in 1927 in Pomeranian fishing villages on the Baltic coast, depicting fishermen and peasants at work. The exhibition is structured in sections: 'Cercare' (Searching) covers his youthful works and influences, including his admiration for Edvard Munch and Paul Gauguin; 'Trovare' (Finding) focuses on his travels and nature as inspiration, with dynamic paintings and graphic works evoking exotic, unspoiled environments; and 'Riflettere' (Reflecting) presents his late works, such as 'Riposo al mare' (1950), which express a longing for harmony with nature. Pechstein's palette was often brighter and less extreme than his peers, as seen in 'La conversazione' (1920) and 'Natura morta con cesto di frutta' (1912). The exhibition underscores the contemporary relevance of Pechstein's vision in light of climate change and technological transformations.
