Max Lamb's Economy Chair enters mass production with Hem

architecture-design · 2026-05-20

British designer Max Lamb has launched the Min Chair, the first industrially produced version of his Economy Chair, in collaboration with Swedish brand Hem. Originally conceived in 2020 when Lamb handcrafted 60 chairs from polystyrene slabs in three days, the design has since been rendered in materials like copper and silver nitrate for one-off pieces. The Min Chair is made from a single slab of pinewood, cut diagonally to form legs, seat, and backrest, assembled with dowels with near-zero waste. Described as "subtly subversive" by Hem, the chair will debut at the 3 Days of Design festival in Copenhagen, Denmark, from June 10 to 12, 2026. This is Lamb's third collaboration with Hem, following the Last Stool (2015) and the Max Table (2020). Photography by Erik Lefvander.
