Max Casacci's Urban Groovescapes Album Transforms City Noise into Dance Music
Max Casacci, founder of the Italian band Subsonica, releases his new solo album 'Urban Groovescapes' on 42 Records. Unlike his previous work 'Earthphonia', which used natural sounds to highlight environmental fragility, this album reimagines urban spaces by capturing the beauty of city noise and converting it into dance music. The 10-track album was initially pressed in a limited vinyl edition but remains 'open' on streaming platforms for continuous additions of new tracks made from city sounds. The first additional track 'Ghost rail' has already been released. Casacci aims to involve listeners in their own sonic research. The album's video, created by Riccardo Akasha Franco-Loiri of the multimedia studio High Files, uses artificial intelligence, as does the cover artwork by artist Marino Capitanio, which 'replicates the process of acoustic sampling of the album's tracks, rearranging fragments and colors of the urban code to create a new visual language'. Casacci describes the album as a political manifesto made without musical instruments, using the urban space as a palette of sounds. He criticizes outdated artistic representations of cities focused on alienation and decay, and advocates for evolved urban models addressing climate change, energy production, sustainable work, and social engagement. The album invites listeners to imagine transforming everyday urban space into a moment of dance as a first exercise in collective imagination.
