Mavis Pusey: First Major Museum Survey at Hammer Museum
The Hammer Museum in Los Angeles will present "Mavis Pusey: Mobile Images," the first major museum survey dedicated to Jamaican-born artist Mavis Pusey (1928–2019). Opening in 2026, the exhibition features over 60 artworks spanning her 50-year career, including abstract paintings and works on paper. Pusey, a key figure in geometric abstraction, drew inspiration from fashion, printmaking, and urban environments. Despite international recognition, her work has been largely overlooked. This retrospective, based on over a decade of research, aims to reexamine her impact on abstraction.
