MAUTO Torino Opens to Contemporary Art with Anri Sala and New Collaborations

The Museo Nazionale dell'Automobile (MAUTO) in Turin is launching a new initiative called Convergenze, integrating contemporary art into its historic car collection. The museum, which saw strong attendance in 2024 (over 35,000 tickets in August alone), begins with the exhibition 'Ritorno al futuro. Prototipi di tempo' (October 1, 2025 – January 11, 2026), curated by Gianluigi Ricuperati, exploring the relationship between cars and watches around the iconic DeLorean DMC-12 designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro. The show features twelve works from Anri Sala's Suspended series, presented together for the first time in a museum, each corresponding to an hour on a clock face. From late October, the permanent collection will be rehung with new didactic materials and archival items, alongside 20th-century art works. The first collaboration under Convergenze is with Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo for the exhibition 'News from the Near Future' (October 30, 2025 – March 8, 2026), extending the foundation's 30th-anniversary show. MAUTO is also rethinking its design spaces with Triennale Milano and may enhance its conservation center. The initiative is led by president Benedetto Camerana and director Lorenza Bravetta, aiming to position the museum as a dynamic cultural platform.
