Maurizio Galimberti's Alzheimer Photography at Fondazione Rovati

exhibition · 2026-04-26

For Alzheimer's Awareness Month, Fondazione Luigi Rovati in Milan presents 'Fotografia imperfetta dentro il fragile vivere', a photographic project by Maurizio Galimberti (born 1956 in Como). The exhibition results from collaboration with Cooperativa la Meridiana of Monza. Galimberti rapidly photographed residents of 'Il Paese Ritrovato', Italy's first Alzheimer's Village opened in February 2018 in Monza, which houses over 64 patients in a realistic setting with a bar, cinema, park, and hairdresser. The artist used two techniques: large-format warm-toned analog-digital prints and his signature Polaroid mosaics that fragment the subject. The show inaugurates a series of accessibility projects at the foundation, following a pilot phase in July where pairs of visitors with disabilities tested museum routes, leading to new paper and digital materials. The foundation aims to become a model for inclusive cultural offerings. Galimberti described his experience as discovering 'IL VIVERE MAGICO' in the residents.
