Maurizio Galante and Tal Lancman's Fabulous Universe at Calais

exhibition · 2026-08-09

The French city of Calais is hosting a double exhibition of works by fashion designer Maurizio Galante and designer Tal Lancman, titled 'Maurizio Galante & Tal Lancman: Haute Couture, Design, Art'. The show runs from June 13, 2026, to January 3, 2027, at two venues: the Cité de la dentelle et de la mode and the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Calais. Curated by Lydia Kamitsis, the exhibition features around 160 dresses, furniture pieces, and objects, including Lancman's photographs of parrot tulips and a series of ceramic birds embroidered by Galante. A life-size tiger made of 2,500 hand-cut tulle leaves and the flamboyant organza bolero 'Drago' (1992), which was owned by architect Zaha Hadid (1950–2016), are also on display. At the Cité de la dentelle, the artists have created chairs and a table with over 3,000 holes threaded with silicone laces. These 'conversation pieces' have entered the permanent collections of the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), the Victoria and Albert Museum, and the Musée Galliera. Galante's fashion house is one of only sixteen members of the haute couture circle, while Lancman has trained at Hermès, Baccarat, and Shiseido. The exhibition was featured in Beaux Arts Magazine's special summer double issue (n°505-506, July 2026).
