Maurizio de Giovanni on Naples' Urban Regeneration and the New Maritime Station
Naples is experiencing a transformation, marked by the inauguration of the Stazione Marittima at Molo Beverello, which has opened after 21 years as the inaugural venture in waterfront redevelopment. Conceived by Michel Euvé and collaborators, this 170-meter-long semi-subterranean structure showcases a mosaic by artist Solimene. Excavations have uncovered remnants of docks from the Bourbon period. The building's interior functions as a sheltered piazza, crowned by a scenic promenade. Author Maurizio de Giovanni highlights the importance of this initiative in re-establishing the city’s connection to the sea and revitalizing Naples' identity. Additionally, the extensive regeneration plans include a museum area at Immacolatella, the historic embarkation point for emigrants to America. This interview is part of Artribune's urban regeneration series.
